Man, 28, docked over alleged theft, presentation of fake US currency


A 28-year-old man, Musa Bukar, was yesterday charged before an Igbosere Magistrate's Court over claimed taking and presentation of fake United States dollars to a customer.

The litigant, who runs Bureau du Change, is confronting a two-count charge bordering on taking honest to goodness $5,000 and unlawful ownership of fake $5,000, favored against him by the Police.

The Prosecutor, Inspector Ingobo Emby, told the court that the litigant conferred the offenses on December 16, at around 1:30pm.

He said that the episode occurred at plot 42, Olabanji Olajide Street, in Lekki Phase 1, region of Lagos.

Emby likewise claimed that the respondent acquired honest to goodness $5,000 esteemed at N1.4 million from one Tony Emokpere, yet purportedly exchanged it for fake $5,000 which he displayed as original US coin to the complainant.

The respondent pleaded not liable to the charges against him.

Consequently, Magistrate P. A. Balogun allowed him safeguard in the entirety of N50,000 with two sureties in the like aggregate and deferred the case till January 13, 2016, for mention.
