Lalong seeks SMEDAN’s partnership to develop MSMEs in Plateau

Plateau State Governor Simon Lalong says he is seeking partnership with Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency (SMEDAN) for the development of small scale businesses in the state.

Lalong, who stated that SMEs operate better with business support services and easier access to finance, gave the plea when he visited Dikko Umaru Radda, Director General, SMEDAN.

The director general, according to a statement from Ibrahim Mohammed, Head of Media and Publicity in the agency, assured of SMEDAN’s assistance in key areas of business development services and entrepreneurship training.

He congratulated the governor for establishing the state’s small and medium enterprises development agency and the micro-finance agency.

“SMEDAN is well positioned to assist state governments in developing and promoting Micro Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), considering the strategic importance of the sector to create wealth and alleviate poverty”, the director general noted.

He said ninety-six percent of MSMEs in the country are micro and the agency was doing all it could to formalise them so that they can be able to access funds and other benefits.

The statement noted that the agency is being repositioned to meet the challenges of the present time, adding that the visit of the Plateau State governor to the agency was not only apt but encouraging.

The governor noted, according to the statement, that SMEDAN is key to actualising one of his agenda for youth and women in the state, hence the establishment of the state MSME agency.

Lalong, the statement said, also came to introduce the head of the newly formed Plateau State Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency to the director general so that both agencies can synergise on how to develop MSMEs in Plateau State.
